Shri Alok Kumar, General Manager, South East Central Railway
Shri Alok Kumar has taken over as General Manager (GM) at South East Central Railway (SECR) on 30th July, 2021.
Shri Kumar, a senior IRSME officer, joined Railways through the prestigious SCRA (1981) exam of UPSC. He did his Mechanical Engineering from Engineering Council (London) and has a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA).
He started his career in 1986 at Western Railway and over the last 35 years has worked at a number of important posts in Indian Railways. Prior to his posting as GM/SECR, he was working as Additional General Manager, Western Railway. As Chief Administrative Officer, Raebareli, he headed the team that pioneered implementation of Industry 4.0 in Indian Railway workshops. He was Divisional Railway Manager, Bhopal from 2015-2017 and prior to that, in his tenure at Container Corporation of India, was instrumental in getting state of art port cranes at dry ports across India.
He has been trained in various facets of advanced management at Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh; SDA Bocconi, Milan; APEC, Antwerp; IIM, Ahmedabad and ISB, Hyderabad. He won the Minister of Railways award for Best Project and GM’s efficiency Medal and also received the Institute’s Medal during engineering.
