Achievements of Mechanical Department

1.Clean Train Station (CTS) at Raipur & Bilaspur Station:

      CTS is operational at Bilaspur station since 2008-09 where 72 pairs of trains attended per day.

CTS at Raipur station has also been started from 05 March’2015. Total 14 pairs of trains are being attended per day under this scheme.




2.SMS Web based complaints redressal system for OBHS.


SMS Web based complaints redressal system have been implemented in all trains having OBHS facilities of Bilaspur, Durg and Gondia Coaching depots. By the above system, passenger can register their complaints regarding cleanliness either by logging on web site ( or through SMS e.g. CLEANto 58888. Demand for cleaning is conveyed to the OBHS supervisor along with passenger seat no. OBHS supervisor attend the complain and collect feedback code from passenger and sent it back to the system to close the demand.





3.Water recycling plant at DURG in Raipur Division:

Water Recycling Plant has been commissioned by Engineering Department at Coaching Depot, Durg on 21.4.15 The recycled water is being used for washing of coaches at pit-line and washing line during primary maintenance, saving water at the tune of 200 KL per day

Water Recycling Plant at Coaching Depot, Bilaspur is already in operation since Mar`13 and saving water at the tune of 300KL per day.

4.Manufacturing of Bio-tanks:

Discharge of human defecates directly on track, which creates unhygienic atmosphere for passengers, passersby as well as railway staff working on track, is a serious environment problem. Bio-toilets have been invented in co-ordination with DRDO to convert the solid wastes in to liquid & gaseous form which is not harmful. It will help to improve Green stations & Sections.


Motibagh Workshop has been nominated for manufacturing of Bio digester tanks to be provided in Eco friendly toilets in passenger Coaches. 256 nos. of Bio-tanks have been manufactured, so far.


5.Bacteria Generation Plant. Main ingradient of bio tank is the anaerobic bacteria which decompose the human defecates into liquid and gas. The bacteria generation plant has been set up at MIBW/NGP. The plant has a capacity to generate 75000 liter of bacteria/day for supply of all over Indian Railway. The byproduct of the bacteria generation plant is methane gas which is used for cooking purpose in the hostel of Diesel Training Center, MIB/NGP. It is used in Bio-Toilets & help in improving Green stations.



6.On Board House Keeping:

On board housekeeping service has been implemented in all 20 SECR qualified express trains.


Bilaspur Coaching Depot: - 10 pairs of Trains

Durg Coaching Depot: - 9 pairs of Trains

Gondia Coaching Depot:- 1 Train



7.One BVZI has been modified at Coaching depot/Bilaspur. Two lights and two fans have been provided in guard’s cabin, which will work when the train is in motion through alternator. Two cushioned chair and back rest have been provided for improving the working conditions of guard. Interior and exterior painting of the brake van has been carried out to improve the aesthetics.



8.Steps taken for expediting rerailment of front, rear and satellite trolley for CSM 3X track machine at NGP-Division

Long restoration time taken for rerailment of satellite trolley of CSM-3X track machine in derailment between Rajnandgaon – Bakal section on 25.10.2015 was critically viewed by HAG level committee. In order to reduce this time, joint check was done alongwith track machine supervisors for relocation/removal of infringements at depot for locating jacking points, preparatory work to be done by track machine staff before arrival of staff at derailment site etc.Infringements have been relocated in Zonal Track Machine Depot /Nagpur and report has been circulated to ART incharges at Itwari, Gondia, Tool Van Incharge/ Dongargarhand AXEN/Track Machine for reference to help in faster restoration of this track machine.

This will not only educate break down and Track Machine staff but also help in saving valuable restoration time of CSM 3X track machine in case of derailment.

General Points:


1.Motibagh Workshop, Nagpur has manufactured 236 no. of bio-tanks till Jan`16.


2.162 nos. Bio-tanks fitted in 56 no. of coaches during the year 2015-16 up to Jan`16. Target for the year 2015-16 is 168 Bio-tanks in 61 coaches.


3.In order to improve loading on SEC Railway 90 CC rakes were formed upto Jan’16 during 2015-16.


4.698 no. of BOXNHL wagons have been converted from single pipe to twin during the year 2015-16.


5.Total 74 BOXNHL CC rakes are plying with twin pipe stock.


6.Fitment of double acting door has started at coaching depot, Bilaspur and out of 100 coaches three coaches are already retro fitted. Rest 97 AC coaches will be completed within March-16. Bilaspur division is the first over in open line of Indian Railway to introduce in Jan-2016.


7.First Automatic fire detection and suppression system is retrofitted in pantry car no. SEC10803 of Coaching depot, Bilaspur against the RSP allotment of 05 nos.


8.As per Rly Bd and HQ instruction, 04 off POH BOXN Door less rakes were turned out from Wagon Repair Shop, Raipur and handed over to division upto Jan’16.


9.Work for provision of dustbins in 753 Non AC coaches of Coaching Depot BSP, DURG and G based coaches has been commenced since Dec’15.Cumulative 310 coaches have been provided with dustbins.


10.Motibagh workshop, Nagpur has supplied cumulative 416060 Liters of bacteria to various divisions of Indian Railway since commissioning of innoculum plant in MIB workshop.


11.All 128 mainline diesel locomotives except 19 nos. of loco with EMD AC-AC system are fitted with REMMLOT. REMMLOT facilitates remote monitoring of health and important parameter of locomotives in service. The system also generates critical fault massages to nominated person. This facilitates in averting failures and planning maintenance.


12.Several facilities for overhauling of different assemblies and sub assemblies of HHP locomotives developed/commissioned like:

i)Test stand for HHP locomotives



ii)Radiator fan Test stand






iii)Fixture for transportation of Power assembly for HHP loco



iv)Gadgetfor Overhauling of power assemblies

13.Raipur running room has got ISO 9001:2008 certification on date 22.12.2015 vide certificate no. 101SQDN89 issued by M/s Absolute quality certification Pvt. Ltd.


14.Training of running staff in CCB 1.5, CCB 2.0 and cab locomotive operation and Locomotive with EMD AC-AC system. Total 432 no. of running staff are given training.


15.Newly fabricated Break down Truck No.MH-31/DZ-0601 stationed at Motibagh having convenient sitting capacity for 16+1 staff in front and storage racks on the back side to stack breakdown equipments.



16.Several safety are done in all locomotives of in Diesel shed, Raipur.

·Modification for provision of vent type additional cut out cock has been completed in all BG diesel locomotives based in SECR.

·Shifting of Horn in locomotives has been completed in all 147 locomotives.

·Modification to prevent resetting of VCD by ALP, has been completed in all 147 locomotives.
