IMPORTANT ACTIVITIES OF THE DEPARTMENT :
1.Management of Crew in diesel wing of BG and NG trains.
2.Monitoring of crew lobbies and running rooms.
3.Management of Rail consumer depots by co-ordinating with oil companies to ensure uninterrupted fuelling of BG & NG diesel locos.
4.Disaster management – Quickly responding to accidents and derailments by providing rescue and relief in time.
5.Proper upkeep of Accident Relief Trains (ART) and Accident Relief Medical Vans (ARMV).

2.Narrow Gauge coach maintenance at Motibagh.
3.Freight examination at Sidings like KRPH, KPKD, PNAM & MSPC/Mouda.
4.Planning activities:- Works, Machinery & Plant and Rolling Stock Program.
5.Maintenance/Inspection of Tippler & Motion-in-weighbridge.
6.Management of Narrow Gauge Rail Museum at Motibagh & Nainpur.
BROAD GAUGE ACTIVITIES :
2.Gondia (G) :
ii.Primary Maintenance of 1 Mail/Express (Janshatabdi Exp.) and 3 Passenger Trains (5 conventional Rakes).
iii.Other end Maintenance of 4 Express and 2 Passenger conventional Trains.
iv.DEMU Cleaning and Watering:
Cleaning & watering of 2 DEMU rakes daily. Weekly cleaning & watering of 1 DEMU rakes running in Tumsar Road-Tirodi and 2 DEMU rakes in Raipur Division.
v.Rolling in Examination:
Average Coaching Trains per day- 40 Nos.
Average Freight Trains per day – 65 Nos.
viiMaintenance of ‘A’ Class ART along with 140 T Crane & SPART. 140T crane is kept in covered crane shed and SPART is placed on platform no. 3 HWH end.
viii. Mechanized Coach Cleaning:
·Coach cleaning activity is outsourced and mechanized coach cleaning is done. Every day 50 coaches are cleaned at Depot and 115 coaches are cleaned at platform including DEMU coaches.
·Janshatabadi Express based at Gondia have been provided with On-Board Housekeeping Service (OBHS). 1 Janitor and 6 staff are available for OBHS work.
xi. Pest & Rodent Control:
·Pest & Rodent Control treatment for coaches is also provided through outsourcing for reserved and non-reserved coaches including DEMU coaches. Monthly 60 coaches are treated for Pest & Rodent control.
xi. Garbage collection is also done from OBHS & Pantry car of passing trains. Garbage is collected daily from 10 trains at Gondia.
xii. Passengers complaints are also attended at Gondia. Daily average 4 complaints are attended as per requirement of passengers.
3.Itwari (ITR) :
i.Coach Holding :
ii.Primary maintenance of 2 BG Passenger rakes at Central Railway’s pit line at Nagpur.
iii.Platform turn round attention of 2 BG Mail/Express trains at Nagpur station every day.
iiii.Other end maintenance of 5 BG Passenger Trains per day at Itwari station. Coach cleaning is departmentally.
iiv.Maintenance and Manning of B class ART & ARME at Itwari.
iv.Trouble shooting in NGP-TMR & TMR-TRDI siding and also in sidings located around NGP area.
ivi.On train repairing of rejected empties in sidings around Nagpur area has been done which helped in bringing down Empty rejection at DKU siding from 5 wagons per month in the year 2015-16 to 0.1 wagon per month in the year 2016-17 which is 98% improvement.
Up to February‘17 there is a rejection of only 1 wagon in DKU siding compared to 57 wagons in corresponding period of year 2015-16.
4.Private Sidings :
i.Rolling-in-examination, post-tippling examination and air pressure continuity (APC) is done by C&W staff at following sidings:-

4. Narrow Gauge Raill Museum (NGRM):
Narrow Gauge Museum at Motibagh is the only museum of its kind in India with displays the rolling stock and artifacts of Narrow Gauge system. On the occasion of 150th year of Indian Railways, it was decided to set up a Narrow Gauge Rail Museum to commemorate yesteryear activities of Narrow Gauge Railway system. The museum was commissioned on 14th December’2002. It is strategically located at Kamptee Raod, Motibagh, hardly 3 KMS from Nagpur Station.
The Narrow Gauge museum at Nagpur is spread over a beautifully landscaped area of about 4 acres. The main building is a tastefully refurnished in 100 years old steam loco shed now having various thematic Galleries and an open area to simulate a Railway yard. Antique and Heritage items of NG steam locomotives roll Engineering; Signal & Telecommunication etc. are displayed in NG Rail Museum. Recently covered shed for rolling stock, booking counter in a brake van, attractive paintings on walls etc. have been provided in the museum.
